Chapter 18, It was the next morning and all Winnie could think of was what Jessie said the night before. For her to wait till she was his age to drink from the stream so they could be together. They were eating breakfast then there was a knock on the door which doesn't occur that often, so everyone was surprised as Mae got the door Winnie heard a familiar voice it was the man in the yellow suit.
Chapter 19, The man in the yellow suit walked into the tuck house. He came to take Winnie but the Tucks refused. He told them about the stories from his grandmother. He was very fascinated. Then he told them he knew about the music box. Mae shot the man to keep Winnie safe and now is going to jail because she was caught by the constable.
Chapter 20, The tree gap constable confirmed that the man in the yellow suit had not died. Mae tried to explain why she hit the man in the yellow suit. The constable ordered the boys to take care of the man while he took Mae and Winnie. Mae tuck went on a hoarse in front of the constable., so she couldn't get away. As they rode away, Winnie assured tuck everything would be okay. Then they were on there way to Winnie's home.
Chapter 21, Winnie pulled her little rocking chair up to her bedroom window. She had gotten the rocking chair when she was very small but still squeezes into from time to time. The constable had brought her home. There was a painful pause when the constable told her family how Winnie went on her own free will.
Later that night she thought about the Tucks they were "Good and gentle people". She layed in her bed thinking about the man in the yellow suit and how he must not die. The next day the constable came and said that the man in the yellow suit had died. Mae killed him. The constable also said how "He never even came too".
Chapter 22, Winnie had gone outside and was sitting at the gate when she saw the toad. She thought it looked dried out so she asked her grandmother for water. Jesse outside the fence and she grabbed his hands through the bars. He talked to her about the plan and then gave her a bottle of the spring water. He reminded her to use it when she was seventeem and them come and find them.
Winnie than said she could help. She told Jesse she could switch places with Mae in cell and pretend to be her. Jesse told her that he will tell the others and that he will be waiting for her at midnight.
In chapter 23, Winnie's mother and grandmother were outside, but Winnie was inside on her rocking chair. Winnie sat, listening to the 'tick tock" of the clock until dinner time. No one ate that much. later, she recognized that a storm was coming their way. Everyone went to bed early that night, making sure to close windows along the way .Winnie sat, walked around, rocked in her rocking chair, because there was nothing to do until midnight. Winnie lay thinking about what situation she will be in. With the constable in the morning. As she thought about her love for the Tuck's, and what she would be doing for them. she fell asleep later, before midnight. she woke. She checked the clock and made her way to the door, it was 5 minutes until midnight.
In chapter 25, Winnie stood at the fence in front of the touch-me-not-cottage. She was thinking about how two weeks had gone by since the storm when the storm and Mae tucks escape, and the tucks were nowhere to be found. She was constantly reviewing the evens that had taken place that night. How she laid on the small cot in the cell listening to the storm pouring onto the roof above. how she didn't sleep because she feared she would give the Tuck's away, and the constable's face when he found her. How she was now a criminal for helping a murderer escape, but she was to young to be punished. So she was then released into custody of her parents. She was sitting in the grass for a while just thinking when she saw her toad as it jumped just beyond the fence, there was a dog that suddenly came walking down the road until the dog saw the toad and ran towards the toad. the dog reached out trying to get the toad to save her toad Winnie ran up to her room and took out the little bottle Jesse had given her and quickly ran back to the toad and poured the water over the toad.
Epilogue, When Mae and Tuck came back to Treegap it had changed a lot. Winnies cottage was gone. They needed to know where Winnie was they stopped by a dinner and heard Treegap had gotten burned in a natural fire. They found a grave and ingraved on it said "In memory of Winefred Foster Jackson, Dear wife, Dear Mother, 1870-1948." Winnie was dead........
